JOGMEC Launches Tungsten Co-exploration in Canada

Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC), an incorporated administrative agency to assist upstream activities for mineral resources and energies, announced on Friday the agency starts co-exploration of tungsten deposits in Canada. JOGMEC concluded a co-exploration contract with Yankee Hat Minerals, a Canadian mining company, on 1 August. They will explore tungsten deposits in Selwyn region, east of Yukon Territory. JOGMEC holds 60% equity in the project with 40% equity by Yankee Hat Minerals.They plan to implement basic researches for geological and geochemical conditions during fiscal 2008 ending March 2009. The operator is Yankee Hat Minerals. They aim to find new tungsten deposits in future.In eastern Yukon Territory, there exist Cantung mine and Mactung deposit. Cantung is one of several tungsten mines operating out of China. Mactung deposit is one of world largest tungsten deposits which haven’t been developed.Selwyn region is composed with 4 prospecting areas on total 6,145 hectares, those which are located on the eastern edge of Selwyn depositional basin. The prospecting areas are 20-130 kilometers far from Cantung and Mactung.
