VISCAS to Launch Offshore Plants to High Volt Electric Cable

Tokyo based high voltage electric cable maker, VISCAS Corporation prepares to launch offshore plants other than China through joint venture with local makers to serve local infrastructure. The president Teruyoshi Tanabe said the firm tries to launch the plants in a couple of years. The firm, which is 50/50 joint venture of Furukawa Electric and Fujikura, tries to launch the plants around 2010. The new plants will make high voltage cable with more than 275,000 volt of transmission voltage. Mr. Tanabe said the firm tries to optimize the global supply network by building new production sites in areas with cost advantage including freight from Japanese plants. World major cable makers try to expand the supply network worldwide when the infrastructure demand grows especially in developing countries. J-Power Systems Corporation, which is 50/50 joint venture of Sumitomo Electric Industries and Hitachi Cable, is building the first offshore plant in India and prepares for second plant. Nexans of France and Prysmian Cables and Systems of Italy build and acquire plants in North and South America, India and Asia pacific region.
