Japan Major Steels Reduces Rebar Output in F2007

Japanese major electric furnace steel makers reduced the production of reinforcing steel bar to 11.72 million tonnes by 4.1% in fiscal 2007 (Apr07-Mar08) from fiscal 2006 when the demand from building constructions decreased due to the revision of Japanese building standard law. Most makers decreased the output while they kept the production share.

Kyoei Steel increased the output by 3.2% in fiscal 2007 from fiscal 2006, which increased the share by 0.9 percentage points. The firm kept the top share.

The forth maker was Kishiwada Steel and the fifth was Ito Steel. The sixth maker, Godo steel decreased the output by 14.3% and the share by 0.5 percentage points.

The seventh maker of Asahi Industries and the eighth maker of Mitsuboshi Metal Industry increased the output. The ninth maker was Jonan Steel and the tenth maker was Otani Steel. Nakayama Kogyo decreased the output by 11.1% with 11th share. Kanto Steel decreased the output by 13.6% at the 12th share rank.

The demand from building mansions decreased to 159,685 houses by 34% in fiscal 2007 from 2006 due to the influence of new building standard law. Especially, makers around Tokyo such as Godo Steel or Kanto Steel decreased significantly.
