Japan Carbon Steel Export Rises by 9.3% in July

Japanese carbon steel export increased by 9.3% to 2.26 million tonnes in July from a year earlier, which represented increases for 8 months in a row, announced by Japan Iron and Steel Federation on Monday. The export increased by 5.6% to 550,000 tonnes for special steel and by 12.8% to 66,000 tonnes for processed steel products. The total steel export increased by 7.9% to 3.312 million tonnes including pig iron and ferroalloy in July from a year earlier, which increased for 8 months in a row and exceeded former July record of 3.29 million tonnes in 1997. The export value was US$ 4.29 billion and 452.3 billion yen, which increased for 26 months and 56 months in a row. The export increased by 10.5% to 472,000 tonnes for carbon steel galvanizing steel in July from a year earlier. The carbon steel export increased by 8.8% to 274,000 tonnes for plate, by 18.9% to 278,000 tonnes for cold rolled wide strip and by 47.6% to 156,000 tonnes for welded pipe. The export to South Korea decreased by 6.1% to 740,000 tonnes in July from a year earlier. The export increased by 14.7% to 581,000 tonnes for China, which increased for the first time in 2 months. The export increased by 9.5% to 413,000 tonnes for Thailand and by 33.7% to 390,000 tonnes for Taiwan.
