POSCO Establishes Coil Center for Nissan Motor around Tokyo

POSCO established Kawasaki Coil Center of POSCO-JYPC in Higasi Ogisima of Kawasaki, Japan, which holt competition ceremony in September 5. The amount of investment is 2.7 billion yen. The coil center has 2 slitters for steel sheet and plate, which process at 100,000 tonnes per year, and which supplies high-grade steel sheet for automobile to around Tokyo. Mr. Ku-Teak Lee, POSCO’s CEO said POSCO became to be able to supply highest-grade steel sheet by new coil center and plays a part to scale up competition power of consumers. Hiroto Nishikawa, Nissan Motor’s pre-president, said Nissan Motor started the business in 1994, which had expanded partnership after 2004, and POSCO supplies steel sheet to overseas factories and to Renault. The coil center is forth coil center for POSCO in Japan. The coil center’s capital fund is 490 million yen. POSCO Japan accounts for 64.3% of the capital. Nissan Trading, Nissan Motor’s subsidiary, accounts for 30.6% of the capital. Murayama Shoten, Japanese steel sheet dealer, accounts for 5.1% of the capital. The coil center has ground-floor area at 21549 square meters. One slitter has the capacity at 50,000 tonnes per year for steel sheet, which processes for the size with 0.4-3.2 millimeters thick and 51-1,850 millimeters width. One slitter has the capacity at 50,000 tonnes for steel plate, which processes for the size with 1.6-9.0 millimeters thick and 100-1,650 millimeters width.
