SEI Establishes New Auto Wiring Harness Plant in Egypt

Sumitomo Electric Industries (SEI) and its subsidiary, Sumitomo Wiring Systems (SWS) announced on Monday the firms established a new plant of automotive wiring harness in Port Said, Egypt to expand supply capacity for European auto market. The plant will start operation in August 2009 with about 1,400 employees. The annual sales are estimated at approximately 5 billion yen for 2010. This is SEI Group’s first plant of automotive wiring harness in Egypt.SEI decided to establish a new plant in Egypt with order receipt from Japanese automaker’s sites in Europe as well as considering distribution efficiency and cost competitiveness. Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems (Europe) (SEWS-E) totally invested approximately US$ 10 million capital for the Egyptian subsidiary. SEWS-E is a UK company to control SEI Group’s auto wiring harness business in Europe, 60% shared by SEI and 40% by SWS.SEI Group currently supplies auto wiring harness to European consumers from the plants in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine and Morocco. The annual sales in European region totaled approximately 200 billion yen in 2007.
