Al Rolled Product Market Prices Up by 15 Yen/kg around Tokyo

The market prices of aluminium rolled products increased by 15 yen per kilogram for all of major items around Tokyo at the end of August from a month earlier, according to the seasonal survey for the members of Japan Light Metal Merchant’s Association. The market prices were unchanged around Osaka and Nagoya. Dealers tried to raise reselling prices when primary aluminium price had surged since July. At the same time, Japanese aluminium re-rollers had raised their rolling charges. Some dealers have succeeded in putting higher rolling charge on reselling price while some haven’t yet.Domestic primary aluminium price is set at 360 yen per kg for July-September trading, increasing by 30 yen compared with the previous quarter. Dealers of aluminium rolled products have tried to reflect the upsurge on their reselling prices since July. Dealers could pass 15 yen in July and rest 15 yen in August around Tokyo since there are more dealers in Tokyo than Osaka and Nagoya in point of number and company size.In Osaka and Nagoya, dealers had already passed 25-30 yen on the reselling prices by the end of July. The reselling price hasn’t been raised by as full as 30 yen for 63S grade shape, used for constructions. However, the market price was unchanged in August around these regions.Aluminium re-rollers have raised their rolling charges by around 30 yen per kg so far. Many dealers are still in price negotiations to put the higher charges on the reselling prices. The negotiations are not smooth with slowing demand from constructions, automobiles, machine tools and electric appliances.
