JFE Steel’s High Strength Steel Sheet is adopted for Honda’s Bumper

JFE Steel, Japanese major steel maker, announced on Wednesday the firm’s ultra high strength cold-rolled steel sheet was adopted by bumper reinforcements of Honda Motor’s Fit and CR-V. The sheet’s strength is 1,320 mega paschal (MPa), which is the first for bumper reinforcements in the world. Bumper rain forth is attached on the front of automobile. The reinforcements of the strength is being increased when it is subjected to the shock load. The strength of steel sheet stays at 980-1,180 MPa when the sheet’s workability is decreasing as the strengthening. JFE Steel developed the high-strength sheet by water quenching way continuous annealing process, which has high-workability by homogenization of the material. The sheet cut the weight of the bumper reinforcements by 10-15% compared with existing reinforcements. JFE Steel produces the sheet by no.3 continuous annealing line in Fukuyama area of West Japan Works.Other automobile makers are mulling to adopt the sheet for door impact beam or frame.
