Sumitomo Metals to Acquire Sumitomo Electric’s Rail Brake Unit

Sumitomo Metal Industries announced on Monday the firm agreed with Sumitomo Electric Industries to acquire rail brake business on September 1. With the acquisition, Sumitomo Metals can cover all brake system to improve the providers’ ability for rail industry. Sumitomo Metals already has research and development unit for rail car, axle and brake disc. With the Sumitomo Electric’s technology, the firm improves the technical proposal to the users when the users require more sophisticated brake systems for high speed operations. Sumitomo Electric’s brake sales are around 700 million yen. Sumitomo Metals considers facility transport from Sumitomo Electric to Osaka steel works to combine the business.
