Weak Ferrous Scrap Price in Tokyo

Ferrous scrap market price is decreasing at around 4,900 yen per tonne for steel turning scrap, around 5,400 yen for A grade pig iron turning scrap and around 4,900 yen for B grade pig iron turning scrap at the dealers’ purchase price including freight around Tokyo. The price is likely to keep the level due to relative tight supply.

Local electric furnace steel makers pay 9,000-11,500 yen per tonne for turning scrap. Tokyo Steel Manufacturing’s Utsunomiya plant reduced the scrap purchase price by 1,000 yen on Tuesday and other makers followed the move.

However, the scrap supply is still tight. A trading firm source said the dealers could build scrap inventory, instead of immediate shipping when the price decreased additionally.
