Cu Scrap Market Price Surges by 15-20 Yen/kg, Tokyo

Copper scrap market price surged around Tokyo on Wednesday, when Nippon Mining & Metals raised its electrolytic copper selling price, the market indicator, by 20,000 yen to 540,000 yen per tonne. High grade scrap price increased by about 16 yen per kilogram and low grade scrap increased by about 20 yen per kg. The market price became 465-475 yen per kg for no.1 copper wire scrap, 440-450 yen per kg for new cutting oxygen free copper scrap, 385-400 yen per kg for medium grade copper scrap and 370-390 yen per kg for low grade scrap used by smelters.

Copper scrap supply is tightening with the demand recovery from copper fabricators. The market price reflected upsurge of smelter’s selling price fully under the tight supply and demand balance.

Brass scrap market price surged by about 15 yen per kg, reaching 345-350 yen for new cutting brass scrap and 315-320 yen for brass turning scrap. Bronze scrap market price increased by about 10 yen per kg when bronze products makers are suffered from low orders. The market price became 340-350 yen for medium grade bronze casting scrap and 450-460 yen for new cutting phosphor bronze scrap used by copper alloy fabricators.
