Osaka Steel Invests 12B Yen for Upstream in Sakai Works

Osaka Steel, Japanese major electric furnace steel maker, will invest about 12 billion yen for 3 years to improve upstream of Sakai works. The firm improves the quality of shaped steel products. The firm will introduce agitation equipment to billet continuous caster, surface flaw detector exit side of continuous caster and polishing equipment. The firm will also invest for control system of just-in-time production.

Osaka Steel will export special sized I-beam to One Steel, Australian major steel maker, this month. Osaka Steel started pilot rolling of special sized products in Okajima works. The firm exchanged memorandum of understanding with One Steel last year to supply steel products and started the export of unequal leg angle in November 2008. The amount of the export is 1,500 tonnes every other month.
