Ibaraki based Steel Recycling Research said the ferrous scrap export reaches more than 10 million tonnes in 2009 but the export couldn’t increase the pace in January-May.
The firm estimates the export including 20-30% of return scrap from steel plant in January-May. However, the scrap export is expected to decrease due to the higher price. The scrap consumption is 40-50% lower than previous year, while the scrap supply is 30-40% lower than previous year. Steel Recycling Research expects the scrap export could support the domestic demand.Japan Steel Scrap Composite Prices (Sangyo Press)
