Japan Ferrous Scrap Export to Reach More than 10 Million Tonnes

Ibaraki based Steel Recycling Research said the ferrous scrap export reaches more than 10 million tonnes in 2009 but the export couldn’t increase the pace in January-May.

The firm estimates the export including 20-30% of return scrap from steel plant in January-May. However, the scrap export is expected to decrease due to the higher price.

The scrap consumption is 40-50% lower than previous year, while the scrap supply is 30-40% lower than previous year. Steel Recycling Research expects the scrap export could support the domestic demand.
