Mitsubishi Materials to Expand Environmental Friendly Electronic Materials

Mitsubishi Materials expands electronic materials to serve energy saving and new energy products including rechargeable when the environmental friendly business keeps growing even after the financial crisis since late 2008. The firm tries to focus the resources into growing areas while the firm would withdraw from loss making business.

Electric materials production decreased sharply since late 2008 when automakers and appliances makers reduce the production sharply along with inventory adjustment. The electric materials output halved in January-March from peak in first half of 2008. The production level is around 70% of the peak.

However, the demand for energy saving and new energy products is still firm. The demand of separator of nickel hydride battery used for hybrid vehicle is still firm. Mitsubishi Materials’ subsidiary, Mitsubishi Materials Electronic Chemicals keeps firm production for the material in second half of 2008 as the first half. The sales were around 30% higher in April-June than second half of 2008.

The demand is growing for direct brazed aluminium substrate, which is part of inverter for hybrid vehicle motor. Mitsubishi Materials expands the production capacity gradually at Shizuoka plant to meet higher demand.

The firm also considers withdrawing from loss making commodity grade electronic materials. The firm tries to focus the resources into growing items by allocating the resources from loss making business.
