Japan Stainless Scrap Drops by 14.6% for Jan-Jun

Japanese stainless scrap export decreased to 136,951 tonnes by 14.6% for January-June from the same period of last year. The export is continuing record-setting pace of it to China while decreased by about 25,000 tonnes to South Korea for January-June from the same period of last year.

The export increased to 79,357 tonnes by 12.1% to China for January-June from the same period of last year while decreased to 50,528 tonnes by 34.1% to South Korea. The export was over 10,000 tonnes to China until May for 5 consecutive months. On the other hand, the export decreased to over 2,000 tonnes in January.

The export decreased to 8,226 tonnes by 12.5% to South Korea in June from May, 6,940 tonnes by 53.1% to China. The export was below 10,000 tonnes to China and South Korea since December 2008. Japanese scrap dealer source said the export dropped because domestic stainless scrap market price has increased.
