Tokuyama to Build Polycrystalline Silicon Facilities in Malaysia

Tokyo based major chemical maker, Tokuyama Corporation announced on Tuesday the company builds the new plant in Sarawak, Malaysia to manufacture polycrystalline silicon for solar cell. The firm starts the construction in the beginning of 2011starting the operation in spring 2013 with an annual production capacity of 6,000 tonnes.

The construction cost is estimated about 65 billion yen. Tokuyama Corporation establishes the company in Sarawak in August. The firm manufactures polycrystalline silicon for solar cell with Siemens method. The plant would launch the operation with about 300 labors, of which 280 are locally-hired.

Tokuyama Corporation manufactures polycrystalline silicon in Tokuyama plant, Yamaguchi, Japan supplying mainly for semiconductor so far. The firm decided to establish second factory in Samalaju Industrial Park in Sarawak, Malaysia in November 2008.
