Japan Cu Official Price Increases to 630,000 Y/T

Nippon Mining & Metals announced on Thursday the company revised up official copper ingot price by 2% or 10,000 yen to 630,000 yen per tonne for shipment in August, which was the highest since 670,000 yen marked on October 7, 2008. The monthly averaged price increased by 6,200 yen to 622,300 yen from previous revision on August 5.

Copper price at London Metal Exchange was US$ 6,113 per tonne for purchase in afternoon session on Wednesday, which was US$ 127 higher than the level at previous revision by Nippon Mining & Metals on August 4. Copper spot price at New York Commodity Exchange renewed yearly high at 282.05 US cents per pound on Wednesday, which is equivalent to US$ 6,219 per tonne.

Weakening yen exchange rate lifted Japanese official copper price. Telegraphic transfer selling rate was 97.12 yen per US dollar on Thursday, which was 0.86 yen lower than the price at a previous revision on August 5.
