Japan Carbon Steel Import Drops by 45.6% in April

Japanese carbon steel import decreased by 45.6% to 171,701 tonnes in April from a year earlier, according to Japan Iron & Steel Federation. Steel sheet import especially decreased. Carbon steel import increased by 3.5% in April from March. The import decreased by 16.3% to 13,043 tonnes for special steels in April from a year earlier and by 36% to 36,753 tonnes for secondary processed products.

Carbon steel import decreased by 68% to 10,410 tonnes for plate in April from a year earlier, by 51.4% to 73,565 tonnes for hot rolled sheet, by 45.2% to 36,605 tonnes for cold rolled sheet and by 61% to 12,202 tonnes for zinc coated steel sheet. On the other hand, the import increased by 58% to 9,044 tonnes for H-beam, by 41.4% to 16,636 tonnes for wire rod and doubled to 1,677 tonnes for steel bar.

The import decreased by 49.6% to 98,832 tonnes from South Korea, by 54.9% to 19,659 tonnes from China and by 32% to 45,918 tonnes from Taiwan, while increased by 8.5 times to 5,033 tonnes from New Zealand.
