Pb Scrap Market Price Increases by 5-8Y/kg around Tokyo

Lead scrap price increased by 5-8 yen per kilogram around Tokyo when Mitsubishi Materials revised up the official lead scrap ingot price by 9,000 yen per tonne on Monday. The market price is 75-85 yen per kg for high grade scrap, 45-50 yen for electrode plate scrap and 60-65 yen for typographic scrap.

Japanese nonferrous metals price increased due to the price increase at London Metal Exchange on Friday. Lead scrap price increased quickly under the tight supply.

Secondary lead refiners hope to purchase high grade scrap, of which main item is lead tube scrap, at 95-99 yen per kg. However, a refiner source said the market price is more than 100 yen for large volume purchase due to price hike by Mitsubishi Materials.

The purchase price of used battery, from which lower grade lead scrap was drawn for the material of recycled battery, is as high as around 35 yen per kg at some exporters. The secondary refiner source expected the makers must pay around 30 yen for the scrap. The purchase price by refiners for electrode plate scrap without content is more than 60 yen due to very tight supply.
