Chinese largest secondary alloyed aluminium maker, Shanghai Sigma Metals starts construction of new US$ 100 million plant in January 2010. The firm builds new plant with annual 600,000 tonnes of production capacity on land with 540,000 square meters in Chongqing. The firm expects the construction completes as early as end of 2011.
The president Tony Huang said by telephone the plan to a reporter of Japan Metal Bulletin. The new plant will serve to local automakers including transplants of Suzuki Motor and Isuzu Motors. The plant with 2,000 of employees will produce AD12.1 grade alloy and high purity aluminium-silicon alloy at annual 300,000 tonnes each. Shanghai Sigma now produces monthly 2,000-3,000 tonnes of AD12.1 alloy at medium sized rental plant in Chongqing. The firm adds a production line in October for 7,000 tonnes of monthly production capacity. The existing plant will shift the production to new plant. Mr. Huang said the firm will market all of the products from the new plant for domestic market. He said the plant can secure aluminium scrap in local market while the plant would import for supplemental purpose. The firm produces world largest level of near 20,000 tonnes per month of aluminium alloy in China. With the new plant, the firm becomes undisputed world no.1 maker.Japan Steel Scrap Composite Prices (Sangyo Press)
