Japan Al Scrap Price Stays Flat in Fourth Week of September

Japanese aluminium scrap market price is flat in fourth week of September. The purchase price by secondary aluminium alloy makers is 140-145 yen per kilogram for higher grade new cutting scrap while the price is 115-120 yen for aluminium casting scrap from machine and 95-100 yen for pressed can.

The alloy makers and scrap dealers start the negotiation of scrap price for first half of October in late next week while primary aluminium ingot settlement at London Metal Exchange decreased by US$ 16.50 to US$ 1,848 per tonne on Wednesday from a previous day. Domestic primary aluminium ingot price is 190-194 yen per kg without freight for cash transaction.

On the other hand, Russian secondary aluminium export offer price to Japan is US$ 1,650-1,700 per tonne for AK5M2 grade. The breakeven point with imported material for Japanese users stays high at around 160 yen per kg. Japanese alloy makers are reluctant to purchase Russian ingot when they can not increase the products selling price enough.
