Nippon Steel Launches New Eco-friendly Electrogalvanized Color Sheet

Nippon Steel started to market newly developed environmental friendly black colored electrogalvanized steel sheet with water base paint. The firm started the shipment the new product for back cover of flat panel television for Panasonic. The firm expects the product is selected by other television makers instead of plastic back cover and is used for audio and visual equipment and office automation equipment.

Nippon Steel developed the new products by coloring thinly on one surface of ZINKOTE21, which is chromate free galvanized steel developed in 2009. The firm developed the new product with water base paint containing polyester series plastic while traditional flat steel for back cover is colored by organic solvents.

With water base paint, the new product can have 70-80% thinner color layer than traditional colored steel while the new product can reduce carbon dioxide emission by 99% due to lower organic elements emission during drying compared with traditional colored flat steel.

The firm also succeeded to develop the electrogalvanizing line with online water based painting, which can skip coloring process. The firm can ship the new product with flexible delivery schedule from electrogalvanizing lines at Kimitsu and Hirohata works while the pricing is same level or lower than traditional colored flat steel.
