Sumitomo Chemical Switches to Use Aluminium Hydroxide for Alumina Products

Sumitomo Chemical announced on Thursday the firm totally changes a material for alumina products from present bauxite to aluminium hydroxide by April 2010. Japan commits to terminate red mud (bauxite residue) disposal into the sea until 2015 along London Convention which regulates sea dumping disposal. The firm follows the regulation by the material shift.

Sumitomo Chemical has consumed imported bauxite to produce 200,000-tonne alumina per year at Ehime plant, Japan. The firm currently verified probability to supply alumina products, such as LED substrates, IC packages and fine ceramics for automotive plugs, at the quality as high as the present by utilization of imported aluminium hydroxide.
