Furukawa-Sky Aluminum Forecasts 368,000T Sales for F2009, 10% Down

Furukawa-Sky Aluminum Corp. revealed at a press conference on Friday the firm’s sales volume of rolled aluminium products would total 368,000 tonnes for fiscal 2009 ending in March 2010. The annual sales volume is expected to be in line with the initial plan announced in spring, despite of lower sales of can materials and aluminium plates than originally estimated. Steady sales for foils, common domestic applications and exports could cover the total volume.

The firm’s half-year sales totaled 167,000 tonnes for April-September 2009, down by 50,000 tonnes from the same period of fiscal 2008. The sales volume decreased year-to-year for can materials, foil materials, common domestic applications, plates and exports. Extrusion sales decreased by 7,000 tonnes to 14,000 tonnes while casting and forging product sales kept the level almost as same as a year earlier at 1,000 tonnes.

The annual sales for fiscal 2009 would shrink by about 10% compared with fiscal 2008. Flat product sales are estimated at 338,000 tonnes, down by 32,000 tonnes year-to-year. Extrusion sales are estimated at 29,000 tonnes, down by 5,000 tonnes. Casting and forging products are estimated at 1,000 tonnes.
