Japan Ferrous Scrap Use Rises for 7 Months through September

Japanese ferrous scrap consumption by converter, electric furnace and casting industry increased by 7.9% to 3.401 million tonnes in September from August, which represents month-to-month increase for 7 months in a row.

The converter increased the consumption by 2.0% to 1.029 million tonnes in September from August while the electric furnace increased the use by 7.3% to 1.886 million tonnes and the casting industry increased the use by 28.2% to 427,000 tonnes, according to Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Ferrous scrap supply increased by around 8% to 3.359 million tonnes in September from August, which increased for 2 month in a row. The supply increased by 6.2% to 1.031 million tonnes from the steel makers and by 10.8% to 2.295 million tonnes from the market.
