Japan Compound Semiconductor Shipment Drops by 29% in 1H F2009

Japanese shipment of compound semiconductor materials decreased by 29% to 16.7 billion yen in first half year of fiscal 2009 started April from same period of fiscal 2008, according to Japan Manufacturers’ Society of Compound Semiconductor Materials (JAMS-CS). The shipment decreased for all major 3 items including gallium arsenic, gallium phosphorus and indium phosphorus. The shipment increased by 26% from second half of fiscal 2008, when the shipment was very slow due to major inventory adjustment.

The shipment of gallium arsenic decreased by 13.2 billion yen in the first half year from same period of fiscal 2008. The shipment decreased both for domestic market and export. The shipment increased by 33% from second half of fiscal 2008 and the shipment increased by 50%. The export shipment was more than domestic shipment for the first time since second half of fiscal 2006.

The shipment of gallium phosphorus decreased by 46% to 2.1 billion yen in the first half from same period of fiscal 2008. The shipment increased by 31% from second half of fiscal 2008 due to higher export shipment. The shipment of indium phosphorus decreased by 20% to 1.2 billion yen from same period of fiscal 2008 while the shipment was same level as second half of fiscal 2008.
