SWCC Showa Group Advances Plant Reorganization Globally

Toshio Tomii, president of SWCC Showa Holdings, explained to Japan Metal Bulletin about the detail of plant reorganization plans for wiring harnesses applied to electric appliances and copper telecommunication cables. As to the wiring harness business, Daiji, a domestic productive subsidiary, is closing Itami plant, Japan to integrate the operation into Okayama plant, Japan. In Dongguan of China, SWCC Showa Holdings integrated 2 productive subsidiaries on October 1st. As to the telecom cable business, Aomori Showa Electric Cable, a domestic productive subsidiary, transferred production of thin diameter coaxial cable to another group company in China.

Daiji becomes to operate 2 domestic plants in Okayama and Yamagata. Itami plant already closed the productive operation. Japanese electric appliance makers, the main customers of wiring harness, have transferred their operations to China and Southeast Asia in recent years. SWCC Showa Group has followed the trend and reorganized wire harness plants in Japan and China in late 2-3 years.

In Dongguan, China, SWCC Showa Holdings had operated Dongguan Showa Interconnect Products, a 100% subsidiary to manufacture wiring harness, and another plant specialized for exporting wiring harness. These plants were integrated on October 1st and Dongguan Showa Interconnect Products remained.

Aomori Showa Electric Cable’s thin diameter coaxial cable production was transferred to Hangzhou Futong Showa Wire & Devices. Thin diameter coaxial cables are mainly used for personal computers and game machines those which are mostly fabricated in China. Output volume of thin diameter coaxial cable almost doubled at Hangzhou Futong Showa Wire & Devices after the operation transfer.
