Weak Rebar Price in Tokyo

Concrete reinforcing steel bar market price is decreasing from 54,000 yen per tonne for direct shipment from the makers to the users and from 59,000 yen for the dealers’ inventory sales around Tokyo. The buyers of general contractors are reluctant to purchase decreasing order receipt for the sellers. The makers and dealers try to get order at lower price as low as around 50,000 yen for direct shipment transactions. The price depends on better supply balance through production cut.

The makers plan operation stoppage in the yearend holiday as last year. The local rebar production is expected to be around 200,000 tonnes per month in December and January when the makers try to keep major production cut. The makers reduce the sales volume as production cut.

However, the demand is lower than the production cut under slow construction activity. The dealers are accepting lower bid from the buyers decreasing the market price. The market price could decrease to less than 50,000 yen per tonne for direct shipment transaction for the first time since 2004 when the sellers try to secure order toward demand slow season.
