Copper Scrap Price Rises by 6-12 yen/kg in Osaka, Tokyo

Copper scrap market price increased by 6-12 yen per kilogram around Osaka on Monday after Japanese official copper ingot price increased by 10,000 yen to 660,000 yen per tonne. The scrap price increased by 6-8 yen per kg around Tokyo. The higher price is accepted by the market under tight supply despite of thin demand toward yearend holiday.

Brass scrap market price increased by 12 yen per kg around Osaka under higher official zinc ingot price and higher rolled copper makers’ scrap purchase price while the actual scrap transaction was thin. Nippon Shindo and Mitsubishi Shindoh increased the scrap purchase price by 6 yen on Monday. New cutting brass scrap market price is 435-440 per kg around Osaka. The new cutting brass scrap price is 430-440 yen around Tokyo.

Copper scrap market price around Osaka increased by 8 yen per kg. The price is 560-575 yen for no.1 copper wire scrap and 500-505 yen for middle grade of copper scrap. The scrap price increased by 7-8 yen to 565-575 yen for no.1 copper scrap and 500-510 yen for middle grade of copper scrap around Tokyo.

A source of scrap dealer in Tokyo said the dealers are still calm while usually some of them try to liquidate the scrap inventory toward yearend. However, the source said the dealers cannot pay more than 580 yen per kg for no.1 copper scrap under slow demand.
