Ferrous scrap market price is firm at around 18,000 yen per tonne for H2 grade, 19,800 yen for H1 grade and 21,500 yen for HS grade at the dealers’ purchase price including freight around Tokyo. The market price would remain firm when the export price is higher than local electric furnace steel makers’ purchase price.
Local electric furnace steel makers’ purchase price is 24,000-25,000 yen for H2 grade while some makers pay 25,500 yen. The export price increased by around 1,500 yen to FOB 26,500-27,000 yen per tonne for H2 grade from the end of November. Steel makers in South Korea increase scrap import from Japan when the price is lower than US scrap. Ferrous scrap price is flat around Osaka. The dealers’ purchase price is around 16,000 yen per tonne for H2 grade including freight.
