JFE Steel to Supply 172,000T of Line Pipe for Chevron Gorgon Project

JFE Steel and Marubeni-Itochu Steel, Japanese major steel trade firm, received order of 172,000 tonnes of high grade UOE steel line pipe and electric resistance welded pipe for Gorgon Natural Gas Project by Chevron Australia, announced on Wednesday.

JFE Steel and Marubeni-Itochu Steel supply 154,000 tonnes of UOE pipe with 30 inches and 34 inches and 18,000 tonnes of ERW pipe with 20 inches diameter. These pipes are DNV 450 Grade. JFE Steel manufactures UOE at Chiba area of East Japan works and Fukuyama area of West Japan works for about a year from February while the firm manufactures ERW at Chita works from June.

JFE Steel and Marubeni-Itochu Steel received order of 30,000 tonnes of UOE line pipe for Angola Congo River Crossing Project by Chevron on August 2009.

Gorgon Project is operated by Chevron Australia, Exxon Mobil, Shell and Japanese energy companies. The companies develop Greater Gorgon gas fields in Australia. Greater Gorgon with estimated about 40 trillion cubic feet of gas is the largest gas field in Australia.
