Rising Stainless Cold Rolled Flat Steel in Tokyo

Market price of stainless cold rolled flat steel surged by 5,000 yen to 305,000 yen per tonne around Tokyo. Dealers are passing the higher purchasing cost on the reselling price in response to makers’ price hike. The market price is expected to rise when material price keeps high. On the other hand, dealers are concerned about the import products.

The demand has rebounded from electric appliances or food industry. Meanwhile, the demand still stays low from building materials. A dealer source said they could raise the reselling price by 30,000 yen per tonne even after summer.

Stainless steel makers raised the selling price, material costs are surging and the market inventory is decreasing. However, many dealers can’t raise the reselling price due to low demand.

Nippon Steel & Sumikin Stainless Steel Corporation (NSSC) has raised the selling price by total 75,000 yen per tonne for dealers since May. Dealers have reflected NSSC’s hike on the reselling price only by 50% yet. Dealers continue to appeal the price hike.
