Lead Scrap Market Price Slightly Surges in Tokyo

Lead scrap market price upped by 1-2 yen per kilogram around Tokyo on Monday, when Mitsubishi Materials announced its electrolytic lead selling price, the market indicator, at 255,000 yen per tonne for domestic shipment in November. Mitsubishi Materials’ price was revised down by 10,000 yen from the end of October but exceeded October’s monthly average at 250,700 yen. Lead scrap market price became 110-115 yen per kg for high grade scrap, 95-105 yen per kg for electrode plate scrap and 80-85 yen per kg for typographic lead scrap.

Market demand for secondary lead ingot stays low, a material for lead tubes and brass bars. Meanwhile, a secondary lead smelter around Tokyo said there were active sales of high grade lead scrap from scrap dealers in October when lead market price surged, which is a material for secondary lead ingot.

Brass bar makers’ productions are recovering. The secondary lead smelter said the demand for secondary lead ingot is slightly improving from brass bar makers. However, the total supply and demand balance still keeps loose for high grade lead scrap. Secondary lead smelters don’t accept high offer price. Their purchasing price is around 120-125 yen per kg or 130 yen even at maximum.
