Al Construction Material Shipment Decreased for 9 Straight Years to 2009

Japanese aluminium construction material shipment decreased by 13.5% to 310,543 tonnes in 2009 from 2008, which decreased for 9 years in a row, according to Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The production decreased by 15.7% to 257,875 tonnes, which showed year-on-year decrease for 6 straight years. The demand significantly decreased while new housing starts declined by 28% to 780,000 units in 2009 from 2008.

The shipment of aluminium sash for wooden house decreased for 6 years in a row while the building sash shipment showed year-on-year decrease for 3 straight years. The range of drop expanded in 2009 from 2008.

The aluminum door shipment decreased for 10 years in a row while the exterior shipment showed decreases for 5 straight years.

The shipment of aluminium construction material decreased by 11.5% to 25,635 tonnes in December 2009 from a year earlier while the production decreased by 13.3% to 20,980 tonnes.
