Dragon Steel Starts Converter at New Steel Works in Taiwan

Dragon Steel, a subsidiary of China Steel Corporation in Taiwan has started the operation of one converter of two at new integrated steel works in Taichung, Taiwan. The firm starts the second converter operation in spring. The converter is made by SMS Siemag, the world largest steel plant maker in Germany and the total production capacity of 2 converters is 2.2 million tonnes per year, according to SMS Siemag. Dragon Steel starts the operation of blast furnace with 3 million tonnes of annual output capacity on February 26. The firm stably supplies iron source to the downstream operation and CSC group.

SMS Siemag supplied two 230 tonnes converters including bin system for ferroalloy, gas facilities, vehicles, ladles and the firm gave technical assistance to Dragon Steel. Dragon Steel manufactures high grade steel such as automotive steel with the facilities.

Hot rolling mill of the new steel works with 3 million tonnes of annual output capacity is planned to start the operation on July. Dragon Steel starts second blast furnace in October 2011 completing the 6 million tonnes of the steel project.
