YUSCO Plans 50% Higher Stainless Output at 2.5 Million tonnes in 2010

Taiwanese major stainless flat steel maker, Yieh United Steel Corporation (YUSCO) plans to increase the group’s production by around 50% to 2.5 million tonnes in 2010 from 2009 after the firm expanded the output capacity to world largest class of 3 million tonnes through doubling the capacity to 2 million tonnes for the subsidiary, Lianzhong Stainless Steel in Guangzhou, China in December. The group tries to expand the sales under recovering demand in Taiwan, China and Southeast Asia.

Lianzhong Stainless Steel added an electric furnace and a hot and cold rolling line in December. The firm operates the 2 lines depending on the market while the no.1 line is under repair now. The firm tries to meet growing demand especially for 200 series stainless products when the 200 series products represent 50-70% of the production.

YUSCO plans 20% higher production in 2010 from 2009 when the production level reaches around 90% of the level before financial crisis while the production was around 800,000 tonnes in 2009 due to slow demand. The firm ships around 35% for offshore market. The firm launched Japanese office in May 2009 to expand the sales in Japanese market.

YUSCO’s production capacity is around 3 times of Japanese largest stainless maker, Nippon Steel & Sumikin Stainless. YUSCO with 3 million tonnes of annual output capacity is one of the world largest stainless makers including Acerinox of Spain and Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel of China.
