Sigma Group Keeps High Production in China to Meet Strong Demand

Secondary aluminium alloy demand keeps strong in China. Sigma Group, the world largest producer of secondary aluminium alloy headed in Taiwan, continues full operations mainly at Shanghai Sigma Metals after Chinese New Year holidays in response to the users’ strong demand mainly from Chinese die casting makers. Tony Huang, chairman and CEO of Sigma Group, explained to Japan Metal Bulletin.

The production at Shanghai Sigma Metals, the productive site in Shanghai, is expected to total 22,000-23,000 tonnes in March, 6,000 tonnes of which is exported to Japan. The plant’s output in April would keep the volume as high as in March.

Shanghai Sigma Metals Chongqing, another productive site in Chongqing, completed the capacity expansion of the existent plant at the end of February and the output capacity doubled to 7,000 tonnes per month. Mr. Huang said the production is expected to total 6,000 tonnes in March and the plant could enter full operation in April. Meanwhile, construction of Chongqing’s new plant started at the end of February whose capacity is planned at 600,000 tonnes per year.

Mr. Huang said Chinese secondary aluminium alloy market is likely to keep the strong tone for a while when domestic car sales are expected to maintain active.
