World Primary Al Output to Top Demand for 4 Straight Years

World primary aluminium ingot production is estimated to be 38.90 million tonnes in 2010, same as 2008 while the consumption is estimated to be 37.92 million tonnes, according to Japan Light Metal Welding & Construction Association. The production would exceed the consumption for 4 years in a row.

The consumption decreased by 7.6% to 34.44 million tonnes in 2009 from 2008 due to the economy recession. However, the consumption would increase to 37.92 million tonnes in 2010 same as 2007 and 2008 when the demand increases in China.

On the other hand, the production would exceed the consumption in 2010 when the smelters in China starts the new facilities.

The consumption is estimated to increase to 42.13 million tonnes in 2011 and would exceed the production for the first time in 5 years. The production is estimated to be 41.91 million tonnes in 2011.
