Amatei Increases Nail Price by 15 Yen/kg in May

Amatei, Japanese major nail maker raises the selling price of carbon steel nail, special steel nail and combined nail by over 15 yen per kilogram for May shipment. The price increases by 8-15% for carbon steel nail and special steel nail while by over 7% for combined nail. Amatei decided the price hike for the first time as Japanese nail maker when wire rod price surged by over 15,000 yen per tonne from April.

The firm tried to reduce the productive cost by drastic optimization including layoff, self-manufacture of outsourcing works and capacity reorganization during fiscal 2009 along the shrinkage of domestic house building market. Amatei explained the firm decided the price hike since the firm can’t absorb cost pressures only by inner efforts.
