Nippon Denko Launch New Lithium Ion Battery Material Plant

Nippon Denko announced on Friday the firm completed the construction of new plant to make positive electrode material for lithium ion battery in Takaoka plant. With the new plant with 2,000 tonnes of lithium-manganese spinel production capacity per year, the firm’s capacity increased to about 4 times at 2,700 tonnes. The new plant has started the operation and starts the shipment spring of 2010. The firm plan to increase the capacity more to meet growing demand for electric vehicle and hybrid car.

Nippon Denko has increased lithium-manganese spinel capacity when major battery maker requested. The new plant with 2,000 square meters of building has no space to increase the capacity. However, Nippon Denko plans to increase the capacity more by building new plant to meet growing battery demand for automobile.

Lithium-manganese spinel demand increases for small and medium size battery when the spinel has overcharge tolerance. Nippon Denko has improved the life and energy density of the spinel and the battery maker adopted the spinel for electric vehicle and hybrid car. The firm expects the order receipt of spinel increases for electric power storage.
