Secondary Al Production Increases by 23% in December

Secondary aluminium and aluminium alloy ingot production increased by 23% to 65,331 tonnes in December from a year earlier while the shipment increased by 14.9% to 66,323 tonnes, according to Japan Aluminium Alloy Refiners Association.

The secondary aluminium alloy production showed first year-to-year increase in 19 months while the shipment showed first increase for the first time in 17 months. However, the production and the shipment were low in December 2008 due to the stagnant demand. The production and the shipment seem to show year-to-year increase for several months when comparative figure was low.

The production decreased by 7% in December from November while the shipment decreased by 4.8% due to the lower number of operation days. The domestic demand leveled off.
