Toho Titanium to Double Ni Ultra Fine Powder Capacity in F2010

Toho Titanium plans to double production capacity for nickel ultra fine powder with capital expenditure of 2 billion yen or more. Demand of nickel ultra fine powder is expected to grow which is applied to inner electrode of multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC). MLCC demand is increasing along the market expansion of electronic appliances. Toho Titanium will double the capacity of productive lines in Chigasaki plant in Kanagawa, Japan within fiscal 2010 ending in March 2011.

MLCC is applied to many electronic devices to reduce noise and support power supply. One cellular phone generally uses 200-300 MLCCs while one car adopts 1,000 MLCCs. In recent years, demand of electronic appliances has grown mainly in Asia. MLCC demand is forecasted to increase by averagely 6% per year. Nickel ultra fine powder demand is also increasing.
