Hitachi Cable Plans 9% Higher Rolled Copper Output in F2010

Hitachi Cable announced on Monday the plan to make monthly 6,150 tonnes of rolled copper products in fiscal 2010 started April, which is 9% higher than fiscal 2009. The firm expects the production increases for copper strip in the first half with strong demand for semiconductor and electronics parts while the production increases for copper tube in the second half. The firm expects the unit secures operating profit for the first time since fiscal 2007.

The firm plans to increases the rolled copper production by 11% to 6,050 tonnes in the first half of fiscal 2010 and by 8% to 6,250 tonnes in the second half from same period of fiscal 2009. The firm plans to increase the copper strip production by 19% to 3,500 tonnes in the first half and by 7% to 3,700 tonnes in the second half. The copper tube production will decrease by 6% to 1,500 tonnes in the first half and increases by 8% to 1,400 tonnes in the second half.

The rolled copper production decreased by 9% to monthly 5,625 tonnes in fiscal 2009 from fiscal 2008. The production decreased by 26% to 5,450 tonnes in first half of fiscal 2009 and by 16% to 5,800 tonnes in the second half from same period of fiscal 2008. The annual production increased by 4% to 3,200 tonnes for copper strip from fiscal 2008 while the production decreased for copper tube.
