METI Launches Industrial Structure Vision

Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry reported industrial structure vision 2010 at industrial competitiveness committee of industrial structure council on Tuesday. The report recommends the aluminium and electric wire industries should develop growing market segments and demand in emerging countries while the companies should improve the corporate competitiveness.

The report the government should secure offshore resource, establish recycling system and develop substitute materials for rare metals Japanese in order to improve international competitiveness of Japanese manufacturers. The report encourages the government to improve the wide range of activity in better relationship with resource rich countries and human resource and technology development under strategic plan.

The report recommends the government encourages aluminium industry to develop advanced technology and products and to develop emerging market while the government should support more efficient recycling system and offshore smelting projects. The report also encourages electric wire industry to shift to optical and electronics devices making the companies into total energy and information transform industry under severe international competition.

The report Japan is loosing competitiveness in industrial products in world market with lowering market share while the infrastructures are loosing leading position in Asian countries. The report sets 5 strategic areas including infrastructure, environment and energy, healthcare, cultural industry and advanced industry to make Japanese economy more globalization for other industry than automobile, appliances, steel and industrial machinery.
