LME Nonferrous Metals Price Marks Yearly Low

Nonferrous metals price collapsed at London Metal Exchange on Friday due to the speculative selling under the financial problems in Europe and USA. The price hit the year low for copper, lead, zinc and aluminium price and the nickel price decreased to the lowest level since February.

The copper settlement was US$ 6,450 per tonne on Friday, which was US$ 170.50 lower than the previous day price. The price decreased to US$ 6,200 in the afternoon session, which was 22% lower than the yearly high in April and the lowest level since October 2010.

World copper market is still under strong demand. The inventory decreased by 15% compared with the peak in February at warehouses registered to LME.

The zinc settlement marked US$ 1,665.50 per tonne on Friday, which was the lowest price since July 2009. The inventory was at high level at 620,000 tonnes, which represents about 20 days of the world consumption. The price was 33% lower than the peak in April.

The lead settlement decreased by 32% to US$ 1,621 per tonne on Friday from the peak in April, which represented the lowest level since July 2009.
