Sumitomo Metal Mining to Explore Cu, Ag, Mo in Carajas

Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation announced on Thursday JOGMEC transfers the exploration right for nonferrous metals including copper, gold and molybdenum in Carajas, Brazil to Sumitomo Metal Mining as a result of the tender held on Wednesday. JOGMEC has cooperated with Anglo American’s subsidiary in exploring in Carajas. This is the first transfer of the project in Brazil while JOGMEC transferred 8 projects since 2005.

There are large mines around Carajas including world’s largest Carajas iron ore mine, Salobo copper mine under development and Sossego copper mine with annual 130,000 tonnes of copper production.

JOGMEC has confirmed the sign that iron oxide-hosted copper-gold deposits in Carajas area as a result of the investigation.
