Summit Showa Aluminum Targets to Retain Profitability in F2010

Japanese major secondary alloyed aluminium maker, Summit Showa Aluminum targets monthly 11,000 tonnes of production in fiscal 2010 started April to secure the profitability for the first time in 3 years.

The firm reported 112,000 tonnes of sales with 21.7 billion yen of sales for fiscal 2009. The firm improved the profitability in and after July-September but failed to cover the loss in April-June when the firm posted around yen of net loss.

The firm expects the domestic demand in fiscal 2010 is less than the level in fiscal 2007. The firm plans to make monthly 7,700 tonnes of production for die-casting, casting and deoxidizing agent and 3,300 tonnes for new alloy and aluminium can recovered ingot.

The firm has no plan to restart melting furnaces at Shiga and Ibaraki plants. The firm expects the industry is exhausting and the industry needs support by the scrap suppliers along with user industry. The firm still exchanges the information with offshore makers and eyes potential partnership with offshore companies for offshore plant.
