Japan H-Beam Export Rises by 40% in May

Japanese H-beam export increased by around 40% to 11,289 tonnes in May from April, according to Ministry of Finance. The export hit 10,000 tonnes for the first time in 22 months when the buyers apparently increased the import from South Korea and offshore makers under higher yen rate and higher domestic makers’ price. The averaged import unit price increased by 3.8% to CIF 69,000 yen per tonne from April.

The import from South Korea represented top share for May import. The import from South Korea was 4,366 tonnes at Sakai branch customs and 2,136 tonnes at Chiba customs. The import from China was 1,376 tonnes at Shimizu customs and 1,345 tonnes at Yokohama customs.

Japanese H-beam export increased by 16.4% to 26,599 tonnes in May from April. The averaged unit price increased by 10% to FOB 66,100 yen per tonne. Japanese makers increased the export mainly for South Korea. The export to South Korea was 7,354 tonnes at Sakai customs, 3,344 tonnes at Kashima customs and 2,398 tonnes at Osaka customs. The export to Hong Kong was 5,003 tonnes at Sakai customs and 1,044 tonnes at Mizushima customs.
