Sumitomo Corp Tries to Expand Oil Well Tube Share in Asia

Sumitomo Corporation’s tubular products division aims to increase its sales share in growing Asian market by enhancement of sales network for oil well tubes and metal components applied to oil well machines. The division aggressively provides SCM (supply chain management) services for oil well tubular goods while strengthens operative sites of the group companies, HOWCO headed in Scotland and OMS headed in Singapore.

The division started to provide SCM service in Vietnam this month to supply oil well tubes at 1,000 tonnes per year for offshore oilfield development in Vung Thau, Vietnam by UK oil company, Premier Oil. The delivery will complete at the end of October 2012. Sumitomo Corp provides SCM service for the first time in Vietnam. The firm has expanded SCM service sites in 15 places worldwide including 3 Asian countries, Malaysia, India and Vietnam.

As to the group companies, HOWCO, Sumitomo Corp’s subsidiary, expanded inventory yard and processing factory for steel bar and steel tube in Singapore. The factory introduced processing facilities to cut and drill steel bars and tubes in order to supply metal components for oil well machines.

Meanwhile, Sumitomo Corp recently acquired total shares of SCOMI OMS Oilfield Services and SCOMI OMS Oilfield Holdings from SCOMI Engineering of Malaysia.
