Baosteel Becomes China’s First Steel Supplier to Nissan Motor

Baosteel Group Corporation announced on Monday the firm was evaluated as China’s first steel supplier to Japanese major automobile maker, Nissan Motor by the car makers’ global supply evaluation mechanism. Baosteel Group strengthens the technical cooperation with Nissan Motor and supplies automotive steel to joint automobile plant of Nissan Motor and Chinese major car maker, Dongfeng Motor.

Baosteel and Nissan Motor plan to increase the Chinese steel use rate to 100% at Dongfeng Motor’s plant. The firms cooperate in improvement of the strength and toughness of the steel. Nissan Motor aims to reduce the weight of steel, which is adapted to new model car through the cooperative study.

Nissan Motor evaluated Baosteel’s product quality, price competitiveness, development capability. Nissan Motor evaluates the supplier every year. Four steel makers including Japanese integrated steel makers and POSCO is recognized as the firm’s suppliers.
